SPSS Statistics

Hello!

I have been trying to open SPSS Statistics (Trial version) since Tuesday with no luck. Here is how each attempt goes:

• I open the application and am met with 2 options - 1, Login with IBM ID / 2, Launch License Wizard
• I click option 1
• Log in - I know the credentials are right since I copy the same email address use for the website, and when I get my password wrong it lets me know
• Loading screen for a few seconds ('Verifying...' / 'Please wait...' etc.)
• The application closes with no error message nor indication as to what went wrong

I have un/reinstalled the application many times now, redownloaded the .exe file from the website, and made sure to run the installer as an administrator (following the advice of online resources) but still have no luck...

My 30-day trial started on Tuesday so there is no reason that the problem will be related to that, as far as I'm aware

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The first place I'd look for something like this is to make sure you are "allowing" the "jcef_helper.exe" process to communicate through your firewall.  This is the process that handles the communication between IBM SPSS Statistics Subscription and the IBM SPSS Licensing server.

i had the same problem but i was using mac os, when i was working on my data it suddenly closed and logged out. After I wanted to log in again (with my trial) nothing appeared and it closed itself. please help me, i have also turned off my firewall

Make sure you have installed the latest release -- IBM SPSS Statistics 29.0.2.0 (2). 

• If you have the Trial, or SPSS Statistics Subscription, go back to https://myibm.ibm.com/dashoard and download the software once more.
• If you have IBM SPSS Statistics, download the latest media from Fix Central - https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/downloading-ibm-spss-statistics-29020

That white screen in the IBMid login is a symptom of changes made to the license server security back in December 2023.  The latest release of the software remedies this situation.

Hi David,

Thank you for replying to this thread. There are still issues when connecting to SPSS trial. Once I download the file and open in as administrator, I have to option to sign in. WHen I choose option 1 and type in my credetienals, a blank pop up window shows up and is stuck there. Could you please do a step by step on how to fix this issue? The first link you have provided in your reply is not working.

The behavior you are describing sure sounds like behavior covered elsewhere in this thread.

• Make sure you have the latest release for this version.  When you launch the splash scren should be showing you "Statistics 29.0.2.0 (2)".  If you don't have that, get it here: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/downloading-ibm-spss-statistics-29020
• Make sure you have allowed 'stats.exe', 'spssengine.exe' and 'jcef_helper.exe' to communicate through your firewall.  There is a technote for this: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/425725
• You may have  remnants of a prior install. To clear these:
• for Windows 
  • Uninstall Statistics and delete the installation directory
  • Delete the %APPDATA%\Roaming\IBM\SPSS Statistics\ directory
  • Delete the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Prefs\com\ibm\/S/P/S/S\/Statistics\one" registry key in the Windows Registry
• For macOS - https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/script-completely-remove-uninstall-spss-statistics-macos
• Download and install the 29.0.2.0 (20) media.

For all in this thread,
There are several common reasons for IBM SPSS Statistics Classic|Subscription|Trial to fail to launch. 
Most have to do with your computing environment:
- OS (Is it Supported?)
- Firewalls and networking (Is something vital being blocked?)
- The version of Statistics you have installed (29.0.2.0 (20) is the current release.  If your splash screen tells you something else, get 29.0.2.0).

Please see my blog post and rule out each of the potential cause there.

If you do not have IBM SPSS statistics version 29.0.2.0 (20) and cannot get it, please see this Flash Alert.  You likely will need to apply an Interim Fix... but cleanly installing the latest release is the best approach.

For all in this thread,
There are several common reasons for IBM SPSS Statistics Classic|Subscription|Trial to fail to launch. 
Most have to do with your computing environment:
- OS (Is it Supported?)
- Firewalls and networking (Is something vital being blocked?)
- The version of Statistics you have installed (29.0.2.0 (20) is the current release.  If your splash screen tells you something else, get 29.0.2.0).

Please see my blog post and rule out each of the potential cause there.

If you do not have IBM SPSS statistics version 29.0.2.0 (20) and cannot get it, please see this Flash Alert.  You likely will need to apply an Interim Fix... but cleanly installing the latest release is the best approach.

We have filed issue #7662 for this, a high priority issue. Any additional information about your environment that you can provide will be helpful and we will add that information to the report.

I have been trying to open SPSS Statistics (Trial version) since Tuesday with no luck. Here is how each attempt goes:

• I open the application and am met with 2 options - 1, Login with IBM ID / 2, Launch License Wizard
• I click option 1
• Log in - I know the credentials are right since I copy the same email address use for the website, and when I get my password wrong it lets me know
• Loading screen for a few seconds ('Verifying...' / 'Please wait...' etc.)
• The application closes with no error message nor indication as to what went wrong

I have un/reinstalled the application many times now, redownloaded the .exe file from the website, and made sure to run the installer as an administrator (following the advice of online resources) but still have no luck...

My 30-day trial started on Tuesday so there is no reason that the problem will be related to that, as far as I'm aware

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
