The IBM Data Science Community team has been working hard to source and create informative content and learning opportunities for our over 25K members. Our tiny team (@Tim Bonnemann, @Kiefer Hackney, @Jana Thompson and myself) has surveyed the community, monitored discussion threads, tracked blog views and event attendance, and worked with data scientists internally and externally to keep up with trends and conversations.
A few things to know: new today is the refreshed IBM Data Science in Practice blog. We've kicked things off with a great perspective piece by data scientist and design expert Jana Thompson called Data Science in 2021, taking a detailed look at current trends and hot topics in data science today.
We redesigned the blog, currently with 23K followers, to address the following:
- Capture the hearts and minds of data science learners and practitioners
- Detract from heavy product promotion and marketing, and appeal to members through hands-on learning and education
- Create alignment between Medium as a content source and IBM Community as a vehicle for delivery
- Support IBM conversations happening externally and invite people to discuss and share about these topics
What we are not:
- IBM executive thought leadership
- IBM product marketing, announcements, or documentation
- Leading with Watson the product, but supporting Watson's capabilities through real-world scenarios
What we ended up with:
- Updated title and visual identity
- Updated categories: Tutorials, Use Cases, Perspectives, Careers, and Community Scene
- Updated submission guidelines and streamlined submission process
- Promotion plan
