IBM Champion Spotlight: Partho Sandell

By Namitha K posted Thu May 30, 2024 02:30 AM

Meet our new Champion from Data & AI area, Partho Sandell, who is a Principal Consultant at Infosys. He is a Senior Technology Leader with over 20 years of experience in consulting and managing teams in large organisations. He has managed complete life cycle application delivery, infrastructure, architecture, solution design, dev ops, help desk, and support areas. Partho has set up and operated several Automation Centers of Excellence for various companies. He has over 10 years of experience in AI, Conversational AI, Intelligent Automation, and digital transformation and has delivered a couple of Generative AI, projects in the last year.

He is deeply committed to advocating for IBM products, especially IBM watsonx.ai, which resonates with his interests in AI/ML and LLM. He says, “My experience with watsonx.ai is multifaceted. I've collaborated with IBM partner teams and championed watsonx.ai internally at Infosys and with clients. I played the role of a product and delivery manager and led a team to build a semantic search accelerator using watsonx.ai. Currently, I'm developing a proof-of-concept (POC) for a proofreading tool using watsonx.ai for a media client. Last year, I spearheaded the training of over 200 Infosys resources on watsonx.ai. This quarter, I aim to train an additional 35+ resources. I also had the opportunity to co-present with IBM leaders at a speaking engagement in New York last year”.

“I believe watsonx.ai is an exceptional platform. It stands out in the industry by offering a cross-hyperscaler governance suite and models built on curated and vetted data. Another key differentiator for IBM is its "Code for Z" offering in the mainframe modernisation space. This offering leverages AI to convert COBOL to Java. A unique offering from IBM is an open source LLM built with NASA for Geo Spatial applications”

Partho finds joy in engaging in both blogging and speaking activities, believing in the power of sharing learnings and fostering meaningful discussions within the technology community.

His journey to becoming an IBM Champion began when he drove the IBM and Infosys partnership in generative AI/watsonx.ai. Prior to his current role, Partho has contributed to various projects, including a notable collaboration with his son to design and implement a low-cost automatic door opening solution for a teenager with disabilities. This experience proved to be incredibly rewarding, as it enabled him to apply his skills and knowledge to create a significant impact.

If Partho were not working in technology, he would relish the opportunity to indulge in his favourite pastime: chilling. Ensuring relaxation and rejuvenation are integral to maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential for him.
