    Hi Team,

    Hi Team,
We are 3rd party patch provider like PatchMyPC or ManageEngine where we are providing the metadata to deploy the application silently. We are having IBM Sumeru JDK 7,11,17 and 21 in our catalog.
While testing your latest release we Found that latest binary is not updating the Display version name/Number, During updating. So its we remain unable to differentiate between the binary which is used for installation.
    latest binary is downloaded from.
    https://github.com/ibmruntimes/semeru8-binaries/releases/download/jdk8u422-b05_openj9-0.46.1/ibm-semeru-open-jdk_x64_windows_8u422b05_openj9-0.46.1.msi
while the earlier binary is downloaded from
    https://github.com/ibmruntimes/semeru8-binaries/releases/download/jdk8u422-b05_openj9-0.46.0/ibm-semeru-open-jdk_x64_windows_8u422b05_openj9-0.46.0.msi
It will be a great help if you can provide the difference between these 2 binaries. Also, can you please tell a way to differentiate between 2 releases, from where we can differentiate the current version and old version.
Any information regarding this issue will be a great help.
If any further information is required, please tell us.

    thanks & regards

    Hi,

We'll get someone to look into the Display version name/Number issue, but to answer your question on the difference between those 2 binaries, you can look at our announcement blog here.    In there is  links to additional information like the "What's new" and release notes which will highlight what was changed between the 8.0.422.0 and 8.0.422.1 releases (just to pick that version of java as example).

To your question on how to differentiate between two releases, are you talking about between two JDK's already installed on a system?  Or between two MSI files? or just between to versions of Semeru if already known (ie 8.0.422.0 and 8.0.422.1)?

    Hi Tony,

    Thanks for the early reply.

Our major concern is the display Name/Version in ARP entry. It will be highly appreciated if you can provide any estimated time in which the issue can be addressed.

Because after installing the two version we are enable to check which version is currently installed on the system as there is no change in the version number in ARP. It will be highly acknowledged as a help if you can provide any information about this issue.

please feel free to ask anything regarding this issue.

    thanks & regards

    Hi,

Can you please clarify for me what you mean by "ARP"?  I'm only familiar with that acronym as the Address Resolution Protocol as part of networking architecture and I don't see how that is applicable in this scenario.

    Hi Tony,

    thanks for the reply.

I our Scenario ARP means Add Remove Program in windows.

Here both the binary are showing the same ARP entry name and version is such case it's hard to detect which binary is installed in the machine.
Hope that now my query is more pinpoint. As help you to solve this issue. If still there is any Query. Please feel free to ask anything regarding this issue.

    thanks & regards

    Hi,

Yes, thank you that certainly helps.  We'll examine our MSI generation scripts and see if we what metadata is being used to populate those fields.  We'll let you know what we find and our plans to remediate.

    Hello,

Sorry, no, we have still not determined what metadata the Windows ARP UI uses to populate that data.

However, if it matter of just confirming a version, I realized I didn't respond to your original question.  There are a few ways to tell the difference.

run "java -version" using the full path to the java.exe of the version you are interested to check.  On Windows it should be in "c:\Program Files\Semeru\<version>\bin".  The 2nd line in the output looks like "IBM Semeru Runtime Open Edition 21.0.4.0 (build 21.0.4+7-LTS)" which gives the Semeru version.

Also there is a text file called 'release'  under "c:\Program Files\Semeru\<version>" and it contains an entry called "IMPLEMENTOR_VERSION' that contains the specific version number which could be read.
