UPDATE: The Solaris x86 and SPARC64 packages for 8.0.8.5 are now available to download from the respective distribution channnels.

We are pleased to announce the general availability of IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, v8.0 SR8 FP5 (8.0.8.5) across all supported platforms except for Solaris. The binaries have been made available across all distribution sites as on June 5th, 2023. This release is based on Oracle's Apr’23 CPU update.

IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, v8.0 SR8 FP5 contains the following key updates:

  • Updates to the technology preview for FIPS 140-3 evaluation. The following RSA key exchange ciphers are now not allowed in FIPS 140-3 technology preview as they are deprecated by NIST. More details are available in the security features page here
  • Features from the latest Eclipse OpenJ9 release, as listed in the Version 0.37.0 and Version 0.38.0 OpenJ9 user documentation.
  • Other SDK features like:
    • RDMA implementation is deprecated and will be removed in a future release of IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, Version 8.

Note:

  • Please note that starting 8.0.8.6 release, we plan to discontinue the support of InstallShield binary (.exe). Instead we plan to provide a Windows native installer, Microsoft Installer (.msi) to ensure that the users of IS .exe binary are not impacted. IBM products that are using / bundling Windows .exe package type of IBM SDK/JRE for Java v8 should move to .msi package.
  • Also, the IBM Development Package for Eclipse (32-bit and 64-bit) will be discontinued after June 2023.
