I am pleased to announce that IBM Lead Architect Alastair Nottingham and myself will be conducting a hands-on lab session for IBM TechXchange 2023! In the lab you will get a chance to develop a cloud-native application utilizing all the great features of Open Liberty.

Description: Want to learn more about WebSphere Liberty and Open Liberty - the lightweight, cloud-optimized Java runtime for cloud-native applications? This lab will take you through Liberty concepts hands-on, and explain how to get the best out of Liberty for development, build, and deployment for the cloud in an end-to-end manner.
The concepts that will be covered include:
  • Working in Open Liberty "dev" mode
  • Developing a "RESTful" microservice
  • Generating OpenAPI documentation
  • Using injection to configure microservices
  • Adding MicroProfile metrics for health and status
  • Persisting data with JPA
  • Adding security with JWT
  • Building and running container images
  • Implementing test containers
  • Deploying to kubernetes.
