Available Now! What's New in IBM Wazi Developer : Bring Your Own (BYO) IDE for Cloud Native Development Trial
Hello Everyone, We are excited to announce a trial of BYOIDE for cloud native development. With this trial, you will experience the IDEs (Eclipse® or Microsoft® VS Code™) integrated with modern SCM such as Git to develop a z/OS application and build a pipeline with Jenkins.

Before I go into trial, let's first talk about the products through which BYOIDE for cloud native development (VSCode and Eclipse) is available. You can get this through IBM Developer for z/OS Enterprise Edition and IBM Wazi Developer for Red Hat CodeReady Workspaces which is the long name for IBM Wazi Developer.

Here, I will give an overview of IBM Wazi Developer and then help you get a copy of the trial.

IBM Wazi Developer for Red Hat CodeReady Workspaces aids hybrid development. With IBM Wazi Developer, IBM is putting Z in the middle of hybrid development, and ensuring that Z can fully participate in hybrid cloud world. Hence this solution supports digital transformation through a single unified toolset that’s familiar with the developers.

As of today, it has two capabilities: Wazi Code and Wazi Sandbox. Wazi Code provides essential developer capabilities that include edit, build, and debug through a choice of IDEs. In Wazi Code, developers are provided flexibility to choose their preferred IDEs. You can choose between Eclipse, Microsoft VS Code or Red Hat CodeReady Workspaces. Wazi Sandbox provides a containerized, personal z/OS sandbox environment running on Red Hat OpenShift that runs on x86 hardware.

With both these components, you can take advantage of the pipeline capability to automate the workflow of application development. Validate the modified code and debug it in the IDE of your choice. Check-in locally tested changes directly to Git. Automatically build, test, qualify and deploy the code to the target z/OS system - the Wazi Sandbox for testing stage and real LPAR for production stage. Go further and build a pipeline with Jenkins, Dependency Based Build, and UrbanCode Deploy.

With this IBM Wazi Developer trial, you will experience the IDEs (Eclipse® or Microsoft® VS Code™) integrated with modern SCM such as Git to develop a z/OS application and build a pipeline with Jenkins.

 You will learn how to:

  • Use GitLab to see your assigned tasks and access application source code stored in Git.
  • Code, debug and build the sample COBOL application using Eclipse or VS Code.
  • Commit and push modifications to Git and request a Jenkins pipeline.

This hands-on evaluation of IBM Z software is as easy as 1-2-3.

  • Completely free. No credit card required.
  • Available within 2 hours and accessible for 3 days including weekends.
  • No installation required. Take a tutorial or just look around.

We truly hope that this trial will give you an experience that will help you to begin your journey with IBM Wazi Developer. To learn more about this offering, you can connect with one of our service representatives.
