Comparing configurations with live WebSphere Application Server instances

You can use the WebSphere Application Server – Configure plug-in to compare a JSON template in IBM UrbanCode Deploy with a live instance of WebSphere Application Server. This comparison allows you to see the differences between edited configuration files and the live instance. You can use this comparison to verify the changes that will be made when you apply the configuration to WebSphere Application Server.

Before you begin

Before you run the comparison process, run a full configuration discovery and complete the steps to edit configuration files, create templates based on the discovered information, and import versions into components. For more information, see the Usage page of the plug-in documentation.

Procedure

  1. Run the application process.

    1. On the Applications page, select your application. The Environments page opens for the application.

    2. Click the Request Process icon to the left of the environment that you want to compare to. The Run Process window opens.

    3. In the Process list, select Full Comparison, then select the component versions to compare to the live instance and click Submit.

  2. Analyze the results.

    1. After the process completes, click Expand All to show the status for all process steps.

    2. Hover the mouse over the step to analyze, and then click the comparison icon at the far right of the row, as shown in the following screen capture. This example illustrates viewing changes at the cell level.

    3. The following window is displayed when you click the comparison icon. You can drill down into the WebSphere object (in this case, a cell) and compare the current configuration and the live instance.

      Cell differences

Select Only show changes to display only the differences between the current configuration and the live instance.
