IBM Cloud Transformation Advisor 3.1.0 is now available. We have packed a lot into this release, to learn more and see a demo we have created this video to show you all the new features. Improvements have been made across several areas including reports, UI & documentation accessibility, recommendations and the Data Collector.

Starting with the reports exported from TA. These reports now include a full explanation of how the workspace development costs are calculated, including an exact breakdown for each issue. So full transparency on how we calculated that dev cost number you see on the UI.

The formula to calculate the cost of modernising Entity EJB's and for modernising issues across the whole workspace have been refined based on feedback from the field. The result is that in the recommendations page you may see your workspace modernisation cost actually fall when analyzing large estates of applications and apps using Entity EJB's.

The Data Collector now uses the latest binaryScanner which includes significant performance improvement, in our tests we have seen up to a 50% improvement in time to scan your applications!

Significant improvements have been made to make the TA UI fully accessible. You will likely notice new layouts for the recommendation and migration plan pages as a result.

Some other minor enhancements include....
    • The default target for new recommendations is WebSphere Liberty (instead of Open Liberty)
    • Common code listed for applications is now ordered by complexity, with the most complex common code at the top
    • When running on RHEL you can now use either Docker or Podman
    • On Openshift, all pods now run under the default restricted SecurityContectConstraint. You no longer need to create a custom one

Upgrading to TA 3.1.0 is easy. As with all upgrades you should export all your data first as described here incase there is an issue during upgrade.
Upgrading your TA operator on Openshift to 3.1.0 is described in our documentation here.
If you are running on RHEL (TA_Local) an upgrading to TA 3.1.0 please watch this short video here to describe how to upgrade to TA 3.1.0

What is Transformation Advisor?
Transformation Advisor (TA) is an awesome tool that guides enterprise teams through the uncertainties of migrating existing, on-premise applications to the cloud by providing recommendations on modernization changes and insight into expected complexity and development effort, it even goes as far as creating the artefacts you will need to containerize and deploy an application on cloud. If you are not already familiar with TA you can learn more by watching the episodeAccelerate Application Modernization with IBM Cloud Transformation Advisor on our IBM Expert TV channel
