What’s New in Transformation Advisor 2.4.2?

By Niall Horgan posted Mon April 26, 2021 01:47 PM

IBM Cloud Transformation Advisor 2.4.2 is now available.

Transformation Advisor (TA) is a tool that guides enterprise teams through the uncertainties of migrating existing, on-premise applications to the cloud by providing recommendations on modernization changes and insight into expected complexity and development effort, it even goes as far as creating the artefacts you will need to containerize and deploy an application on cloud. If you are not already familiar with TA you can learn more by watching the episode Accelerate Application Modernization with IBM Cloud Transformation Advisor on our IBM Expert TV channel

So what’s so good about the latest release of Transformation Advisor? Well we are happy to say we now fully support TA on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) AND on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). What this means for you in effect is that TA can be used for production use without needing to install and run it on OCP. There are more ways than ever now to try TA as illustrated in the table below.

You can try Transformation Advisor at no cost for 90 days to get you started assessing your applications and you can continue to use TA beyond the 90-day evaluation period on certain platforms if you have entitlement to any of the IBM products listed here. If you do take advantage of the free trial on Windows or MacOS and want to continue using it on OCP or RHEL don’t worry, you can keep your data by exporting the data from Transformation Advisor on your desktop and importing to your supported instance by following the export and import instructions.

Another neat feature that is new in TA 2.4.2 is the ability to now customize the UI landing page for your own organization by adding text to the title and/or replacing the TA icon with your own icon. Leo has created a short video here to explain how this works.

Many other great features have been included in 2.4.2 including improvements to the data collector and the TA UI. Paul explains further in this video and shows you what is new in 2.4.2. You may also want to watch this video which describes in detail how to upgrade to version 2.4.2 of TA.

Finally, a word about persistence. With TA 2.4.2, when installing on OCP, configuration for persistence is available now as a form in the UI. Kieran has put together a great overview about persistence on Kubernetes and options for configuring persistence for TA.
