How is this editor fed? Can it obtain data directly from the CF?

A:

The CF and Structure data shown in the policy editor come from CFRM Administrative policy. The CFRM policy editor is making changes to the CFRM administrative policy definitions that are stored in the CFRM couple data set.    The editor is saving/persisting these definitions in the CFRM couple data set.  If there are existing policies that were previously defined there (via the IXCMIAPU batch utility),  then the editor can see and present and make changes to those pre-existing policies.   It can also create whole new policies from scratch,  or by copying/modifying one of the existing CFRM policies. (and saving the new policy in the CFRM couple data set as well).   The policy editor can also ACTIVATE a policy for use in the live sysplex as well

Can changes done to a CFRM policy be saved and activated manually later in a e.g. service window.

A:

Yes, you can edit (and this may span multiple edit sessions) an administrative policy and update it at a later time when you are ready.

Any plans to add something simliar for logr, wlm, arm?

A:

No, Currently we do not have plan for logr, wlm and arm. I'll point out that WLM does already have its own policy editor capability for WLM policies.   At the moment,  no plans for other couple dataset functions such as ARM and SFM. There is also a new WLM Policy Advisor function coming in z/OS 3.1, and that may well result in future changes to the WLM Policy Editor support.

hello, is there a way to load a ‘not active’ CFRM couple dataset with a cfrm policy. I do that when building a DR system/image

A:

At the moment there is no way for the CFRM policy editor to act against a “not active” CFRM couple data set.  That is something that has been raised before,  though,  and we’re thinking about it…

I should also point out that I've been working with sysplex for YEARs.  If the CFRM Policy Editor had been available back then, I wouldn't have so many gray hairs now.  I would definitely recommend anyone that has to manage your CFRM policy to have a look at it.

Hello, can we leverage z/OSMF CFRM policy editor instead of CFsizer in preparation for the transition to a new sysplex on a z16 machine ?

A:

That's certainly a use case for the CFRM policy editor sizing functions Rolando was just talking about, once they are deployed/available. Other use cases (such as, for example,  re-sizing one or more CF structures based on a workload or configuration change that affects the structure usage) are also possible,  and supported

Sorry, maybe I missed it. When is this editor enhancement available, is it available now on current z/OS releases ?

A:

Everything is available in both v2r4 and v2r5 except for the Sizing Definition function that Rolando just introduced, which will be available with z/OS 3.1.
