What's new in Db2 12.1

Db2 v12.1 was released on November 14th 2024. This new release rolls out 200+ new features, including the following:

 
  • AI-powered query optimizer
  • Namespace separation with new tenancy model
  • Db2 pureScale enhancements with the introduction of Pacemaker as the integrated cluster manager for Linux environments.
  • Performance enhancements for backups with intra-tablespace parallelism
  • Apple Silicon driver support
  • Security enhancements
  • Federation enhancements
  • Cloud object storage performance and scalability enhancements
  • Columnar tables performance enhancements 
 
This session gives an overview and a deep dive of the content in the release, and then a look into what is coming soon.

Mike Springgay 

Mike Springgay is a STSM and Db2 Chief Architect at the IBM Toronto Lab. Prior to that he was responsible for architecting extensions to Db2’s Warehouse capabilities, SQL compatibility features, routine infrastructure and client server connectivity. Mike can be reached at springga@ca.ibm.com.

Christian Garcia-Arellano

Christian Garcia-Arellano is STSM and Db2 OLTP Architect at the IBM Toronto Lab, and has a MSc in Computer Science from the University of Toronto. Christian has been working in various DB2 Kernel development areas since 2001. Initially Christian worked on the development of the self tuning memory manager (STMM) and led various of the high availability features for DB2 pureScale that make it the industry leading database in availability. More recently, Christian was one of the architects for Db2 Event Store, and the leading architect of the Native Cloud Object Storage feature in Db2 Warehouse.
