PowerVM SR-IOV technologies provide sharing of network adapters enabled in SR-IOV shared mode. This library contains attachments with information on various features of the technologies along with configuration information. The intent is to update information in this library as the technologies evolves and as more information becomes available. The information in this library includes updates to the PowerVM SR-IOV FAQs and PowerVM vNIC and vNIC Failover FAQs. Updates in this version include:
Hi everyone,
We are installing new Power10 servers equipped with four dual-port 100GbE adapters, configured for SR-IOV with vNIC, and connected to a Cisco ACI fabric.
Our Network Team is concerned that during a VIO failover, all VM MAC addresses will move to the backup path simultaneously. They fear this "mass move" might look like suspicious activity to Cisco ACI, potentially triggering MAC flapping protection or endpoint loop detection and shutting down the ports.
Has anyone run this specific setup (Power10 vNIC + Cisco ACI) in production?
Thanks in advance for your experience!
Best regards,
Eduardo
One document states the number of logical ports per adapter is 80/160 and the other has 40/80 for EC85/86 (200Gb). Which is correct?
@Chuck Graham
@James Chandler
My apologies, the hypervisor memory requirements for the EN24/EN26 adapter is 4.5GB, not 45GB. I'll update the document.
My apologies, I didn't get the new vNIC and vNIC Failover FAQs pushed up until today.
Yes, the EN24/EN26 supports vNIC.
Yes, the hypervisor memory requirement for an EN24/EN26 configured in SR-IOV shared mode is approximately 45GB. Each port requires a pool of resources. The increase in number of ports increased the pool resources.
Does EN24/EN26 adapter support vNIC ?
Page 9 of SR-IOV FAQ says:
Adapters FCs Hypervisor memory per adapterEN24, EN26 45GB
Is 45GB error or EN24/26 used that much memory ?
Excellent contribution. Thanks
