Quick Insights: Zombie Servers (No App Relationship)

Sun May 20, 2018 03:10 PM

This report is part of a series. See full collection of Quick Insights.

Actions

  1. Supply list of zombie servers to infrastructure team.
  2. Ask infra team to verify lack of application consumer per server. (Maybe missing apps is just a data quality issue? Seasonal variation?)
  3. Ask infra team to determine which servers can be repurposed or decommissioned.
  4. When cost model is complete, add cost to this report.

Thank you for sharing this recipe! What a great way to identify opportunities for waste reduction. It will also help with having these difficult conversations with business stakeholders who like to resist switching those zombie services off because they think they may need them one (rainy) day lol!
