IBM UrbanCode Deploy 7.3.1 - New Feature - Deployment zOS Search

Sat April 29, 2023 12:01 AM

With the IBM UrbanCode Deploy 7.3.1 Release, a new Deployment Report is available which allows you to search for particular file or version name that you have deployed to your zOS targets.    Here is a view of the new zOS Search report found under the Reports tab in the web console interface:

zOS versions are characterized by an incremental development process, whereby different versions contain varying files that collectively represent a particular working state of the environment.   Since files are frequently deployed throughout the development cycle, it's important for users to be able to identify which revision of a file is appropriate for their environment.

To address this need, we are pleased to introduce the zOS Search feature in IBM UrbanCode Deploy 7.3.1.   This feature is designed to provide comprehensive deployment information for artifacts and component versions across various scopes, including application and components.    With zOS Search, users can easily access the details they need to make informed decisions about which files to use in their environment.

Imagine you needed to rollback a recent deployment and you then wanted to confirm the version of a COBOL file named "epsmlist" that was active with the zOS Search report.   Here is an example of what you would see following a rollback of version "zAppBuild_2_x-864610713":

Notice the active version is now "zAppBuild_2_x-844087001" as shown above.   This is a really helpful feature to help provide additional visibility into what is currently active at a granular file name or version name level.

Prerequisites
Once you have upgraded to the 7.3.1 release, be sure to upgrade your zOS UCD Agent to 7.3.1 as this is a prerequisite for this new feature.    With this complete, all of your future deployments to your mainframe targets can then be viewed in the "zOS Search" Report going forward.

The Video
This video will provide a demonstration of how the new feature works which will be beneficial in providing visibility when needed to where certain file or version names have been deployed and which one is active or in-active.    Watch the video below to learn more.
