How to Change the Search Method on a Compact Slicer / Global Filter?

Thu September 29, 2016 03:32 PM

Summary

Compact slicers provide a way to include multiple slicers on a report in a minimal amount of space. Compact slicers can be local or global. To create a compact slicer, click Compact Slicer on the Insert tab on the Ribbon. Compact slicers have replaced global filters from earlier releases.

Search Options

There are two search options available from the Slicer tab on the Ribbon. Each will change the behavior for how slicer options are matched against the values entered in the search field.

Contains

Finds all values that include the entered characters. If the user types "abc", the filter will find "abcefg", "defabc", and "defabcefg", but not "abdc" or "adbc":

Starts With

Finds all values that begin with the entered characters. If they user types "abc", the filter will find "abcefg" and "abc", but not "dabc" or "1abc".

Select the option that you think will best meets the needs of the users. The users cannot change the search option when using the slicer:
