Converting a Generated Table to a Table Transform on 12.5

Wed December 12, 2018 09:49 AM

Do you have a generated table that you don't edit anymore? Do other tables still reference it, and you rely on data flowing through it for your model? If so, this video will show you how you can replace your generated table with a normal table transform, and have all your existing references keep working.

I agree with you, @Matt Temple that the vid is not clear.

If it does not display the "generated table" option in the project explorer, then it does mean you do not have any in play. So you are good.

It wasn't mentioned in the vid if the "Generated" option should always appear.

For us, it doesn't appear in our 12.5.x. I suspect we don't have any generated tables in play.

Thanks Tony, I'll ask our CSM

@Julie Batty, so far this is only list our CSM mentioned. I will ask him during our weekly meeting this afternoon. That is a very good question to ask Apptio.

@Tony Wong - do you have or know of a comprehensive list of what actions are needed to upgrade to 12.6?

Thanks for the feedback!  I'm glad that the video helped with the conversion!

Thank you @Ryan Pail for showing us the steps in this video. This helps in our preparation to 12.6 upgrade in January since our CSM just brought to our attention that Apptio has redesigned editable / generated tables in 12.6. There are some actions needed from the customer that should be completed prior to 12.6 to avoid possible issues post-upgrade.

One comment though. If you can incorporate the step where the source table name was at the start, that would help to keep track of the which table is needed for the conversion step since we need to delete the old generated table first. I don't recall in the beginning of your video that you showed that (although I was able to figure it out during the comparison phase).
