1709 - Extend 3-2-1 rule for S3 archiving using LTFS tape to leverage technology and media break

Fri November 01, 2024 10:16 AM

The University of Rostock is facing a growing demand for long-term digital archiving. Nodeum software is a technology and media-independent solution, thanks to its S3 and tape library integration. Nodeum gets data through S3 and stores it in internal buckets on NVME disks. It has a data mover and archiving feature to transfer data from NVME to LTFS tapes while keeping headers on disks. Tape libraries are managed natively for tape operations and data r/w. Users transparently access data directly through the tapes via their buckets. The open format prevents vendor lock-in when copying content to tape and ensures optimized, technology-agnostic data storage without proprietary encoding and obfuscated naming. Data protection is included to protect S3 storage by replicating contents to Tapes.
