In an era where data is the lifeblood of businesses, ensuring its security throughout its lifecycle is paramount. Laws and regulations around data security and privacy have become more stringent, with severe legal and financial consequences.
Data security becomes more challenging when organizations adopt hybrid-cloud architectures which can lead to data center consolidations. IT assets that are decommissioned as part these exercises can become a target for cyber security attacks if data is not properly wiped prior to disposal. Stored or unused hardware that still contains sensitive information also pose a significant security risk considering data can still be recovered from the device.
In addition, clients also want to ensure that the decommissioned assets do not add to global e-waste but rather help meet sustainability goals and accelerate the transition to the circular economy. Decommissioned assets can be returned to the lessor, reused internally, recycled, resold, or donated. In each of these cases, secure and compliant data erasure becomes a crucial first step before assets can be reused. Without the proper training and skills, organizations cannot be certain that their data has been properly disposed of in a manner that protects from data breaches and compliant to regulatory requirements.
We are delighted to announce the global launch of IBM Data Erasure Services!
IBM’s Data Erasure Service provides an environmentally safe and secure data erasure for end-of-life devices in the client’s data center. IBM Technology Lifecycle Services offers this service in collaboration with Blancco, an international data security company that specializes in data erasure and computer reuse for multiple vendor technologies.
IBM Data Erasure Services uses a solution that has multiple regional and global certifications including ISO 27001 and Common Criteria (ISO 15408) and meets recommendations from 25+ standards for data erasure, including the clear or non-destructive purge contained in the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Guidelines for Media Sanitization, NIST SP 800-88 Rev.1.
IBM-certified technicians will take the time to understand the client’s environment and help to frame a data erasure strategy that focuses on security and sustainability. Clients will receive a digitally signed, tamper-proof certificate of erasure that provides the assurance that their data has been erased in compliance with regulatory requirements. IBM can also provide recommendations for additional services that can help with decommissioning assets and harnessing a circular economy.
Why IBM Technology Lifecycle Services?
