  • 1.  "Medium used is for cleaning operation is not a valid cleaning tape"

    Hi

    We have a TS4300 library with IBM lto7 FC drives.
    After replacing the cleaning CLNUxxL1 replacing it with the same label type CLNU34L1, we get the following error messages.
    "Medium used is for cleaning operation is not a valid cleaning tape"

    Cleaning tape: Universal Cleaning Cartridge for all Used with All Ultrium 1-8 Drives 

    We tried CLNU17CU - we get the same error. "Medium used is for cleaning operation is not a valid cleaning tape"

    We will test tomorrow with:
    CLNxxxCU / CLNUxxL7

    We tried with manual mount from the GUI, but got same error.

    What is the correct label for IIBM LTO7 Cleaning cartridge if the above is not correct.. It work fine with L1 until the one expired. we have drive that is offline in NBU and needs cleaning..

    This error is reported by the tape drive after checking for a valid cleaning cartridge.  This error has nothing to do with the label.  If you purchased a valid LTO cleaning cartridge, then you will need to contact support for the seller.

    General information:
    The bar code for usage in IBM® tape libraries must meet predefined specifications. They include (but are not limited to): Eight uppercase alphanumeric characters, where the last 2 characters must be  L9, L8, L7, L6, L5, L4, L3, L2, or L1 (LZ, LY, LX, LW, LV, LU, or LT for Ultrium WORM cartridges).

    For Cleaning: LTO Ultrium Cleaning Cartridge --> CLNxxxLx
    [the CLNxxCU is discarted]

    Approved media:

    IBM LTO Ultrium Universal Cle
    Cleaning Cartridge with Barcode Label (35L2087)

    Please note:  If you want to specify your label sequence, you should order P/N 35L2086 and the barcode BCODE-LTO

    • LTO Universal Cleaning Cartridge works in all LTO Drives
    • 15-50 Cleanings, depending on your drive
    • Comes with non-custom barcode label installed


    Troubleshooting:

    Cleaning or data cartridge incompatible with drive.
    • Check the event log to see which cartridge is incompatible.
    • Make sure that you're using data and cleaning cartridges that are compatible with the drive and model of your device.
    • Make sure that you're using the correct cartridge type for the operation. The device automatically unloads incompatible cartridges, and the Attention LED flashes.
    • Export the media.


    My guess is:
    This error message is origined from NBU. No from TS4300 (different format).
    1-Export media from NBU (assume NBU used to import the cartridge) - database must "forget it". Import the new one (a valid and new cartridge)
