  • 1.  Incremental Clone Jobs (Aka FCv1 Backup) with PBR Cycling Mode

    Hello Team,

We have three standalone FS9500 systems in our inventory. Let's say Box A and Box B are at near site, and Box C is at remote site. The code levels are 8.6.0.3.

<An HA setup can be established between A and B using Fiber, and systems can be upgraded to 8.7.0.x>

In Box A, we have several Volumes that require Incremental Clones. Additionally, we want to replicate these Volumes asynchronously via IP network to the remote Box C using PBR.

The system allows this and works smoothly under normal circumstances. However, if "packet loss" occurs on the IP network during the ongoing PBR Asynchronous replication, PBR switches from Journaling mode to Cycling Mode and continues replication by taking snapshots. This prevents the completion of Incremental Clones initiated from the existing Source Volumes when we trigger start.

I'm wondering if you have any recommendations for this case, or if there is a scenario where we could smoothly use Incremental Clone (Aka FCv1.0 Backup) with Flash Copy v2 and PBR- is this on the roadmap?

Thank you very much for your time in advance.

    Hi Gurdal,

did you try to create a thin clone and refreshfromsnapshot to update your thin clone volumes (or volumegroups).

    Hello Nezih,

A read load needs to run on a Volume that is independent of the Source Volume, and unfortunately, Snapshots and Thin Clones do not meet this requirement.
