Hello all TCT enthusiasts / experts,
I do have a customer interested to move data current there are in Tape (C06 Control Unit + Tape Library and drives) to archive in a public cloud.
Z Software folks positioned the Cloud Tape Connector solution to do that.
Today this client have a DS8900 with the TCT feature installed but no TS7700 and, according customer, probably never will have since they want to leave the platform. I'm wondering, since current machine (DS8900) have the TCT feature, it is possible to use the TCT to move data to a public cloud (R9.3 multi cloud support), but the only caveat is that client would like to read data after write to the public cloud, therefore, the object itself should be a "open" standard.
In my perspective, everything generate by DFSMS (dss or HSM), for example, will only be read by the DFSMS itself, but, maybe my cliente agree this is better than pay for a new software.
Do you guys have some customer doing that? Using TCT to archive data in a S3 solution?
How to do that? I mean, customer would create FVD for all volumes? Or do we have some other way to implement it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Denis,

Both CTC and TCT write the data in a proprietary format that is not consumable off platform.

DFSMSdfp CDA is a method to write z/OS data to object storage and enable it to be converted to UTF-8 format.

We can have a discussion with the client on its capabilities.  Thank you.
