Creatin multiple backup policies for virtual machines

Can I create multiple backup policies for virtual machines that are configured to do a daily backup to my tape library? For example, I want to create a second and third schedule that performs backups weekly and monthly, respectively.

    Hi,

There are probably a few way to accomplish this...

You could create additional data movers on the vStorage backup server, with their own dsm.opt files that point to a new management class with the appropriate data retention settings. The new data movers would then have their own backup schedules associated, i.e. weekly or monthly.

Or you could just create a weekly and monthly management class in the TSM for VE policy domain. Then create new dsm.opt files that point to these management classes. You weekly and monthly backup schedules should then be defined and reference the new dam.opt files using the optfile parameter. Just be careful not to schedule daily, weekly or monthly backups on the same day.

Another option is simply to use the -vmmc option when performing a VM backup to point to a new management class, e.g. dsmc backup vm "myVMname" -vmmc=newManagementClassName

    Hope this helps
