Which tool are you using for the backup?

How did you set the retention?  In the init<SID>.utl  or in Spectrum Protect itself.

And what settings did you configure where?

    Hi Peter,

We are using Spectrum protect for db backup we have set 35 days retention and for log backup it is 15 days. as far as init.utl we have mentioned mgmtclass which is defined on spectrum protect.tdp version is 7.1.3 and spectrum protect version is 8.1.5 let me know if any more information needed. Since we are using dedup and compression on spectrum protect level. Roughly 500 TB occupancy is a problem for me.

    Thanks
    Prem

    Hi Prem,
you can try to improve the dedup rate of the full backups using the instructions found in this document https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/275755

The log backups typically do not benefit from dedup. Depending on the change rate of your database it may be really that much.
