  • 1.  ICOS Slicestor Storage engine status

    Posted Tue February 09, 2021 04:29 AM
    Hello all,

We want to have a look at ICOS (v3.15.4.38). We use the .OVA files coming with this version.
On VMware we deployed and configured a manager, an accesser and some slicestors.
Within the Manager all the devices are green, but the status of the Storage Engine in the Slicestors is Unknown.
With this status I can not create a Storage Pool.
I did try to use the different options (packed, file zone) without any result.

Is there a way to fix the status?

    Thanks!

The manager and accessors are only supported on VMWare.  The slicestors or the data servers must be on raw X86 servers.  David

    Hello T,

you need to ensure that you have got the appropriate number of SliceStor VMs and SliceStor Disks. Please try with 3 SliceStor VM, each of them equipped with 12 SATA disks (I use 2GB ones) in addition to the boot disk. After the disks come online (takes some time - check Monitor->SliceStor->click on the SliceStor) you should be able to create a Storage Pool using Packed Storage format. Note that I'm not using VMware but KVM and currently have 3.14.4.106 working there. Downloading 3.15.5.55 at the moment so might update on that later.

    Best regards,

    Thank you very much Harald,

Your advise did help. Now I can create a Storage Pool.
I  know that we need to use physical servers for production slicestores.

Great to hear that it helped. Needless to say that my tests with 3.15.5.55 have also been successful ;-)
