Data Resiliency - Technical News brief Oct 2024

By Tony Pearson posted Tue October 22, 2024 04:22 PM

Lately, the stream of data resiliency and cybersecurity news has turned into a bit of a firehose – it can be tough to keep up with all the new patterns and practices. During our team meetings, IBM’s Data Resiliency SMEs discuss highlights from development, support, and sales – and we thought you might appreciate the same condensed technical briefing. We plan to make this a regular communication focused on topics that get our experts excited and interested, and we’re bringing back Tech Tuesday webinars with the same goal.

IBM Storage Defender
At the moment we're looking closely at the enhancements to Storage Defender. You may have heard that one component is being retired, but the new alternative is a huge improvement. Adding Data Protect (DP) to a foundation built on Storage Protect (aka TSM), Sentinel, CDM, and other IBM technologies, our end-to-end resiliency portfolio is stronger than ever - especially if you're asked how quickly you could recover your "minimum viable company" or what your plan is for immutability. If your company still thinks of resiliency as just “backups” and isn't on board with a holistic cross-team approach, it’s time to get them looking at the bigger picture.

Protecting virtual environments is easier now with Defender Data Protect, and it's the perfect place to transition your Storage Protect Plus (SPP) workloads. DP is built on industry-leading software, the underlying architecture is clever, and – even for people who still prefer the command line – it's easy and enjoyable to work with the DP GUI. Speak up if you’d like a demo or assistance understanding your existing workloads – IBM teams have scripts to help analyze SPP and SP/SP4VE to show how Data Protect can work in your environment.

Storage Protect just released version 8.1.24 with automated updates for server TLS certificates and support for RedHat 9 on x86 - see the release notes for more details. If you're curious whether you're taking advantage of all the recent SP security updates such as multi-factor authentication or password complexity settings, ask your IBM contacts for a quick no-cost Technical Advisor health check.

The first Tech Tuesday webinar"Resilience Redefined: Navigating the Cybersecurity Maze with Confidence" is scheduled for November 12th, and you can sign up here. This webinar is designed for professionals looking to bolster their organization’s cybersecurity posture in the face of escalating threats and will explore innovative strategies designed to effectively combat cyber attacks and strengthen data resilience. On November 13th, there is a virtual workshop focused specifically on implementing those strategies with IBM Storage Defender.

Haven't yet heard about IBM Storage Defender, or want to learn more? Reach out to your IBM contacts for Defender demonstrations, SP health checks, SPP analysis, or any questions about holistic resiliency and best practices!
