The International Conference on High Performance Computing in Asia-Pacific Region (HPC Asia) is an international conference series in the Asia Pacific region on HPC technologies, fostering exchange of ideas, research results and case studies related to issues of high performance computing. The HPC Asia 2022 conference was held for three days from January 12-14, 2022.
The conference was organized by several organizations and universities in the Asia Pacific region (https://sighpc.ipsj.or.jp/HPCAsia2022/) and it was sponsored by organizations like Nvidia, DDN, Intel, AMD, Oracle, Fujitsu, Altair, NEC etc. The event hosted several interesting posters, papers and workshops in HPC, AI and integration of HPC and AI technologies.

Some of the sessions that I found particularly enlightening were "Reconfigurable Data-Driven Architecture for Future HPC" from RIKEN which showed a framework for design-space exploration of CGRAs (Coarse-Grained Reconfigurable Arrays) in the HPC environment, to provide the CPUs with extra computing power with low energy consumption in HPC. The session also showed the various outcomes of using CGRA islands when running on a FPGA cluster connected to Fugaku supercomputer.

I had the opportunity to present on topic "THINK GREEN! Energy Efficient Cloud for HPC" on Day 1 in the below 2 conference sessions -
1. Poster Blitz session gave a good opportunity to share a brief presentation about the poster to spark interest in the topic.

2. Poster session in Gather Town, was held in a virtual town setup where each poster had been allotted a dedicated poster booth space. It was indeed an unique experience to present in the Gather.Town setup from the virtual poster booth. I got several queries about how IBM products are helping to have a sustainable environment and some attendees asked for real-life examples to know about the experience of following energy efficient cloud approaches.

This being the first time I attended the HPC Asia conference, overall I felt these conferences are excellent opportunities for IBMers to demonstrate our work and gain insights from the international community. Personally, it was a wonderful learning experience for me.
