  • 1.  MaaS360 GUI Issues

    Hello,

These are just some observations and suggestions for changes that would help immensely in navigation and productivity in MaaS360.

    • When searching devices by name and selecting all of them, there should be an option to wipe all devices in that search.
    • When selecting a user group and refreshing the data on the user group page, the refresh brings you back to the whole user list instead of just refreshing the user list within that group.
    • When selecting a device to wipe, a window pops up where you need to scroll down to click the submit button. It should not be like that.
    • You also cannot Tab to choices and press enter. You must click everything. It should not be like that.
    • When searching for users with similar names, there should be a select all option.
    • When selecting users when searching by name, there should be an option to add the users that came up in the search result to an existing group.
    • When bulk-adding users, there should be a selection to add to an existing group.

We are wasting a significant amount of time trying to work around the above nuances of MaaS360.

I know there are ways to perform some of the tasks above more efficiently during the setup, but the above should work as well.

    Thanks,
    Carmine

    Hi Carmine,

Thank you for sharing these ideas / enhancements. There is more suitable channel, the IBM Ideas portal which can be found here --> https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/welcome-ibm-ideas-portal.

You may also directly go at IBM Security Ideas portal as well --> https://ibmsecurity.ideas.ibm.com/

    Hi Carmine
These are very interesting observations and thanks a lot for taking the time to submit them.
As Ethan has already pointed out there is a site where you can submit your proposals for new functionality where they would be considered by the Offering Management (Product Management) team.
Based on 8 years' experience with the product I will give my two cents' worth on your ideas if that's OK with you.
    • When searching devices by name and selecting all of them, there should be an option to wipe all devices in that search.
I think this might have been an option previously but in any case it's not currently available on purpose, for security reasons, to prevent accidental wiping of the complete set of devices in a group as supposed to just one device.
    • When selecting a user group and refreshing the data on the user group page, the refresh brings you back to the whole user list instead of just refreshing the user list within that group.
I think what you're doing on that page is effectively refreshing the group membership.
    • When selecting a device to wipe, a window pops up where you need to scroll down to click the submit button. It should not be like that.
This is a typical security measure to ensure there is a double-check, to prevent accidental clicking and ensure the user has to validate the action.
    • You also cannot Tab to choices and press enter. You must click everything. It should not be like that.
Completely agree - this should be a feature.
    • When searching for users with similar names, there should be a select all option.
Interesting - if you could "flesh this out" in an IBM Idea it might be useful.
    • When selecting users when searching by name, there should be an option to add the users that came up in the search result to an existing group.
    Again interesting.
    • When bulk-adding users, there should be a selection to add to an existing group.
    Again interesting.
I would suggest you consider proposing a distinct idea for each of the features proposed so that they can be evaluated on their own merit.
    Thanks again for your time.

Thanks, Eamonn for taking the time to review my observations.
I will try to submit each of these in the Idea portal.

    Regarding the following 3 issues:

    • When searching devices by name and selecting all of them, there should be an option to wipe all devices in that search.

I think this might have been an option previously but in any case it's not currently available on purpose, for security reasons, to prevent accidental wiping of the complete set of devices in a group as supposed to just one device. Why not add the feature or pop-up with an extra confirmation or 2 to confirm what your intention is?

    • When selecting a user group and refreshing the data on the user group page, the refresh brings you back to the whole user list instead of just refreshing the user list within that group.

I think what you're doing on that page is effectively refreshing the group membership. Not exactly. If I click a group, the group is presented.  If I refresh the page, I'm brought back to the main start page dashboard.

    • When selecting a device to wipe, a window pops up where you need to scroll down to click the submit button. It should not be like that.

This is a typical security measure to ensure there is a double-check, to prevent accidental clicking and ensure the user must validate the action.  I didn't explain it properly. This is a GUI issue. Yes, the submit confirmation button should be there. But what happens is that there is a dialog box that pops up and the submit confirmation is out of view and you must scroll down to see it and then click. When you're working on multiple devices, this becomes inefficient quickly. I hope that makes more sense.
