Cannot open Facebook VPP app on superviced device

  • 1.  Cannot open Facebook VPP app on superviced device

    Hi we have installed Facebook app from VPP on superviced devices (iPads), the app installs itself and everything looks ok, when we try to open it, it closes immediately again.
    The app is not blacklisted in policy and VPP licenses are ok.
    I can not figure out what is causing this, hope someone can assist.

    Hi Kjell,
    Can you reproduce the behavior if the Facebook app is installed via the normal App store workflows on the same device (taking MaaS360 and VPP out of the equation)?

    Hi Matt,  we tryed to login with itunes account, but thats after the app was already installed on the iPad, same issue was present then. I will try to delete the app and download it from appstore as recommended when im back from my roadtrip next week.

    We are having the very same problem. If we install Facebook directly from the App Store without using MaaS360 or VPP, the app works fine.

    I was able to reproduce this problem on my device.  I found a similar report on an Apple forum from a few days ago, but it had no relevant insights in to the issue in the response.  I will open a case with Apple as I believe this needs to be escalated through their teams to discover root cause.  Their response times vary, but I will update this thread when they update me.

    It appears that Apple is already investigating this issue.  Traditionally, they remain tight lipped about the progress until a fix is already in the works, so we may not hear back for quite a while.  I suggest downloading the Facebook app directly from the app store (with no VPP license) as a workaround in the meantime.

    Hey Matt, I know you mentioned that traditionally Apple is tight lipped about the progress until a fix is already in the works but do you know the usual timeline is for issues like this that you've experienced in the past?

    We are using Managed Apple IDs and I was told that there is no workaround from IBM support.

    Hi Robert,

    We usually find out when a fix is publicly announced in a beta version of the OS.  However, since I'm not even sure what the issue is here, I can't say for certain that they'll follow this same patch.  Our case has been bundled in with a bunch of others that opened up from across MDM solutions, so my guess is we'll find out via some sort of case update - eventually.

    Hello to all in this thread - Received word today from Apple, and confirmed it myself, that Facebook issued a fix version of their app today which resolves the issue.  Rollouts via Apple are sometimes staggered, so while it should be available to all new downloads immediately, updates to existing installations can take a few days.

    Same Issue here.  There was an app update to version 279.0 that appeared 3 days ago.  This did not fix issue.
