Passcode payload failed to install issues

    I set up 9 iPads with passcodes successfully configured however MaaS shows this error;
    Passcode payload failed to install

Any thoughts as to why this is occurring?

    Hi,

May i know is this for saas?u should able to login and register all your devices there into the platform. Then you will able to use after they send u email with passcode and link for apps to install everything.

Email will include all details for you to proceed installation without any issue.

    Thank you.

This issue has to do with the device passcode NOT the enrollment passcode for MaaS.

    Thanks!

    Hi Mitch
Generally this would indicate that a policy requirement to apply a passcode hasn't been installed correctly.
Could you check policy and passcode compliance status for one or two of the relevant devices?
    Thanks

Thanks for the clarification Eamonn.  Looking at the dashboard I am seeing:

    Passcode payload failed to install

    But also see:

    Passcode Status- MDM: Compliant

I personally set the passcodes during the activation of the device.  These are iPads enrolled in DEP.  I am wondering if there may have been an issue with a constant and continuous connection during the activation which was done on WiFi as these are WiFi only devices.  So the net may be: MaaS is now seeing the passcode meeting the policy requirements but the actual command during the activation did not happen?

    Stay Healthy!

    Thanks!

Hello did you ever figure this out?  I've enabled "Configure Passcode Settings" changed options such as 6 digit codes and "allow simple passcode".  Saved and published the policy to the correct security policy.

After those changes, when viewing enrolled devices I see that "Passcode payload failed to install".  Additionally, selecting "Reset Passcode" from the device menu, nothing happens.

When originally enrolled, none of the devices had passcodes enabled.  Now that I'd like to have them all locked with passcodes I'm not able to enforce the rule.

Please let me know if you can point me in the right direction to fix the issue.  Pic related.

    Hi all
The issue isn't clear so the best thing here is to raise an investigation to Support with log files so we can identify what the root cause is.
    Can you do this please?
    Thanks, regards

I figured out the issue on this one.  It is a configuration error on my part.  The passcode payload failure issue was the result of me removing the ability to "Change passcode" in the set up policy. In situation where the customer requires this to be configured for the user, I now have a set up policy which allows changing passcode and once the passcode has been set I then apply a production policy where passcode change has been disabled.

    Thanks!

I actually noticed this same option Mitch L and thought it might be related.  I did the same thing you suggested and it fixed the issue.  So to be clear for everyone whos running into this issue:

    1. You first must go to Security/Policies/SELECTGROUP/Supervised Settings/Restrictions and Networks/Allow Passcode Modification and turn it on.

    2. Then go to Security/Policies/SELECTGROUP/Device Settings/Passcode and turn it on, set the settings you wish to use and push the policy.

All done, now you wait. If you ran into this problem then it is likely that you did it wrong the first time.  If this is the case then it may take up to 4 hours before the changes apply even if you "request data refresh" on all the devices.  It seems the update to the policy isn't effected by a data refresh.  However, I left for the evening and came back and all the devices were requesting a passcode.

    Thanks for the help folks.
