Reintroducing QRadar Classic SIEM Community Edition: A New Era of Accessible Security

By Shivam Sharma posted Tue May 07, 2024 07:51 AM

Community Edition is a fully-featured free version of QRadar Classic SIEM that is low memory, low EPS, and includes a 3-month renewable license. It allows applications from across the 400+ apps on the IBM X-Force App Exchange to be installed but is based on a smaller footprint for non-enterprise use. QRadar Community Edition empowers users, students, security professionals, and app developers to learn and experience the latest features of QRadar.

In this exciting update, we're thrilled to announce significant enhancements that aim to revolutionise your experience with our community edition. With version 7.5.0, we're bringing you closer to the full QRadar Classic SIEM experience, ensuring easier access for all users, and introducing key improvements to streamline your security operations.

Version Update to Match QRadar SIEM - v7.5.0

One of the most notable changes in this relaunch is the alignment of our Community Edition with the latest version of QRadar Classic SIEM, version 7.5.0. This means that with each new release of QRadar Classic SIEM, you can expect the Community Edition to follow suit, ensuring that you have access to the most up-to-date features and capabilities.

Easier Access to Customers

We understand the importance of accessibility, which is why we're making it easier than ever for customers to access the Community Edition. The same ISO image that paid customers receive will now be available to Community Edition users, with the only limitations being on EPS and FPM, as well as deployment restrictions. By providing the same image to all users, we aim to democratize access to powerful security tools and ensure that everyone can benefit from advanced threat detection and response capabilities.

Fixed Base OS (RedHat OS)

In our efforts to streamline the user experience and simplify maintenance, we have made the decision to adopt a fixed base OS for the Community Edition. QRadar Community Edition is now based off of QRadar Classic SIEM 7.5.0 Update Package 8, which uses Red Hat Enterprise 8.8 (Ootpa) as the operating system. While previously we offered multiple images based on customer preferences, we found that many users eventually migrated to RedHat OS due to feature restrictions or compatibility issues with certain applications. By standardizing on RedHat OS, we eliminate future compatibility concerns and reduce the redundancy of maintaining multiple OS images. This change allows us to focus our resources more effectively on improving the core functionality of the Community Edition.

Increased EPS Limit, Same FPM Limit

We've listened to your feedback and are pleased to announce an increase in the EPS (Events Per Second) limit for the Community Edition. Previously capped at 50 EPS, the new limit is now 100 EPS, allowing you to ingest and analyze more data for enhanced threat detection and response. Additionally, the FPM (Flows Per Minute) limit remains unchanged at 5000 FPM, ensuring consistent performance for your security operations.

Trial Period - Based on License Key

The QRadar Community Edition comes in the form of an ISO package, incorporating the latest features from the QRadar Classic SIEM 7.5.0 Update Package 8. By downloading the ISO file along with a key file, users can obtain a three-month license for their QRadar Community Edition installation, allowing for data ingestion at a rate of 100 Events per second (EPS) and 5,000 Flows per minute (FPM).

  • Upon obtaining a license key, you'll have three months to fully evaluate the features and functionality of the software, allowing you to make an informed decision about its suitability for your organization's security needs.
  • Upon expiration of the initial three-month license, users have the option to return to the download page to obtain an updated license key to extend their license or to download and install the most recent ISO release.

Refreshed System Requirements

Packed with enhancements and new features, this update ensures that your QRadar CE runs smoothly while providing security analytics and threat detection capabilities. To make the most of these improvements, please note the updated system requirements:
