Last year, we initiated a mission to modernize the IBM Security Guardium Data Protection product and architecture, which resulted in the first release of IBM Security Guardium Insights in 2019. Guardium Insights enables organizations to:
- Create, store and use years of centralized data security & compliance insights
- Quickly produce customizable data security and compliance reports
- Apply near real-time data activity monitoring and protection for DBaaS and Guardium data sources
- Use advanced analytics to help uncover risk and threat patterns and react fast
- Prioritize data security and compliance activities based on automated risk-based scoring and alerting
Since the initial launch of Guardium Insights, significant enhancements have been made. For example, it now features support for more data sources – including all the databases natively supported on Event Hubs (e.g., Azure SQL; Cosmos SQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Gremlin, and Table). Additionally, customers can now stream audit data directly into Guardium Insights without an agent – a key differentiator.
While we’ve made significant enhancements to Guardium Insights, we’re turning the page to a new chapter – making massive improvements to the client experience. Enter IBM Cloud Pak for Security and the delivery of Guardium Insights on Cloud Pak for Security.
Why Guardium Insights and IBM Cloud Pak for Security are the perfect match
IBM Cloud Pak for Security provides an ideal foundation for the continued modernization of the IBM Security Guardium data security offerings. It is an open, hybrid multicloud platform that enables organizations to get more value from their existing security and cloud tools. It is infused with AI and provides common services such as shared data, analytics, automation, and orchestration capabilities that help break down the silos between security teams and tools. Likewise, it supports connections to an open ecosystem of 3rd party security tools, data, and clouds.
Best of all, IBM Cloud Pak for Security is pre-integrated with the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP), giving organizations the flexibility to deploy and run it anywhere – whether on premise, via private cloud, or public cloud.
Since its market introduction, the larger IBM Cloud Pak for Security strategy has aimed to bring together data and workflows across Threat Management, Data Security, and Identity and Access Management (IAM) – all together on top of one platform. This enables security organizations to unify their disparate tools and teams with shared case management, orchestration, and automaton.
In alignment with our commitment to carry out this strategy, Data Security (Guardium Insights) will now be delivered on top of IBM Cloud Pak for Security.

As of August 11, 2020, IBM Security Guardium Insights is being sold with IBM Cloud Pak for Security. Customers are entitled to Guardium Insights, Cloud Pak for Security, and Red Hat OpenShift – all in combination. As a result, Guardium Insights and Cloud Pak for Security now share common components and a containerized hybrid multicloud architecture. This offering is aptly named IBM Security Guardium Insights for IBM Cloud Pak for Security.
In future releases, IBM Security will work to tightly integrate Guardium Insights and Cloud Pak for Security. By building Data Security on top of a common security platform, data security teams will be able to easily share and gain access to critical threat and risk information, which would otherwise be isolated within siloed teams and tools. With a more open approach to information gathering and sharing, Data Security Specialists and adjacent teams can unify their investigation efforts and accelerate the speed and accuracy of their risk mitigation and remediation actions.
IBM Security Guardium Insights on Cloud Pak for Security will enable organizations to:
- Connect data security insights to the broader Security framework
- Take advantage of consistent case management and orchestration
- Improve data security by sharing context across other security tools
"When you consider the many challenges that hybrid multicloud poses for enterprises amidst their digital transformation, data security, data privacy, and compliance must be major areas of focus. IBM Security Guardium Insights for IBM Cloud Pak for Security solves many of these problems by quickly identifying and responding to risk across data environments, thus helping security analysts better protect the enterprise’s entire data estate," said Christopher Steffen, Research Director, Enterprise Management Associates.
