QR Codes, Text Messages, Malicious Mobile Apps: Opening the Door You Thought Was Closed

IT Departments have conducted best practices to protect the Company network, infrastructure, file shares accessed by Desktops and Laptops.
Yes you likely have deployed a Mobile Device Management solution because you believe it addresses your security requirements for smartphones and tablets.
The Bad Players are very aware you have spent considerable time and money protecting the Company Intranet, Email platform, file shares and other internal end points.
They also know you believe your mobile devices are covered by having an MDM in place
Here is what you now need to consider:
Everyone receives the email with a call to action to scan the QR code:
· Your banking password has been compromised
· A special discount on the item you have been searching for
· A FedEx shipment delivery issue
How many people actually read the permissions needed when downloading and opening a new app for the first time? ZERO
How many users click on a text message warning of a security breach?
Sadly, while MaaS360 is a mandatory requirement it is simply not enough now. Malicious exploits are being directed to QR Codes, SMS text Messages (Smishing) and Nefarious mobile apps. And…..Apple apps are in the same boat.
Companies are seeing wireless lines hijacked, banking app information being exploited, and a plethora of new exploits. And…..the sensitive data is going to the dark web to be sold.
How? Downloading the wrong app, clicking on the wrong text message and scanning the wrong QR code. All it takes is one device managed or not managed by an MDM for this to occur.
There is an answer and it is a good one.
IBM Zimperium Mobile Threat Defense.
Easy to deploy with little or no interaction by the end user needed to block any attack coming from a bad QR Code, App or Text message.
