People Are Your 1st Line of Defense: Transform your business to face today’s cyber attacks

By Kaelyn Botshekan posted Mon February 05, 2024 11:19 AM

With the increased sophistication and rise of cyber threats, organizations struggle to develop and maintain the necessary cyber talent to detect, prevent and respond to advanced attacks. In fact, there are over 4M unfilled cybersecurity jobs in the world today. This is compounded by the need for organizations to maintain a risk-aware culture. Boards also recognize the increased complexity of global regulatory mandates and the ability to meet audit requirements.

The 2023-2025 CISA Cybersecurity Strategic Plan (aligned with The National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy) aims to increase basic-level cyber skills across the country, transform cyber education and boost the cyber workforce to tackle the large number of cyber vacancies. In support of this, NIST provides the NICE Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity which is a set of building blocks for describing the tasks, knowledge, and skills that are needed to perform cybersecurity work performed by individuals and teams.

Many companies struggle to find the right cyber talent or understand their risk. IBM’s in-depth cybersecurity expertise leverages lessons-learned from our 1,500+ clients where we’ve hosted training sessions combined with industry best practices based on NIST and ISO standards helping companies build and test their cyber culture, improve incident/crisis response capabilities and help plan their cyber talent transformation journey.

While every organization should create its own cyber talent transformation roadmap, there are three approaches organizations can take to ensure that people are its first line of defense.

  1. Crisis Simulation

Crisis simulation experiences are developed specifically for executive teams and the Board of Directors focusing on the unique roles team members should fill responding to a cyber crisis.

  1. Security Awareness and Training

IBM offers a broad wealth of interactive learning experiences, working across industries, on what attacks and impacts are most pressing for today’s organizations.

  1. Cyber Talent Transformation

Talent transformation is tailored to client’s cybersecurity objectives while utilizing AI to direct and support continuous learning across the human resource lifecycle. IBM’s unique security talent management processes are aligned with compliance standards which help to build resilient cybersecurity teams.
