Generally speaking, routers at homes are set up by the ISP to allow a great variety of traffic get your home's network that you do not need nor want. ISPs set such permissive routers probably in order to minimize support calls.
For example: Did you know that IPs from China and Russia are most likely scanning your home network? I know this because I detected them trying to scan my home's network 15 minutes after I set up QRadar at home — as shown in one of the videos below.
Did you know that many IoT devices at home (cameras, printers, TVs, etc) have software with exploitable vulnerabilities that may never be patched? A compromised device could be used to try to get to computers and phones at your house, or be used to attack other networks.
As some one involved in cybersecurity, you may want to take control of your home's network by replacing your ISP router with one that runs the more secure pfSense software, and separating your IoT devices from your computers in two networks without losing any functionality. You can monitor everything and learn more about Security and Networking by using the free QRadar CE. You can even get an automatic inventory of your networking assets at home, monitor which websites are being accessed from home, and much more.
Achieve all this by following the instructions in these step by step videos:
