 Trial version login fails

I've seen the horror stories of the blank screen and the monthly subscription on active trials, but this is a little different. So I can't log in to the SPSS Statistics, as you've probably guessed. When I start the program, it asks for my IBMid and password. I have an IBMid but no password because I used a Google sign-on. There is an option for an alternate login at the start of the program, but after clicking that, I get this message:

"This browser or app may not be secure. Learn more
Try using a different browser. If you’re already using a supported browser, you can try again to sign in."

Except I can't try a different browser because I'm not trying a browser at all. The SPSS Statistics program is the one opening browser window that is apparently unsupported. My guess is it doesn't allow javascript. But the point is I have no control over it. Trying a "different browser" just logs me in online, not on the program. I tried doing a password reset by telling it I lost the password, but it never sent a code to my email. I clicked "resend" several times, but no code in the inbox or the spam folder. I even have a recovery email and it's not getting anything either.
Has anyone encountered this or found a workaround to get browser windows opened by programs to support login by Google?

Hi Laura,

I've seen similar authentication loops with IBM software when Google sign-on credentials don't sync properly with desktop applications. The embedded browser issue you're hitting is frustrating because you're right: you can't control which browser the SPSS client uses internally.

A few things that have worked for others:

  1. Create a traditional IBMid password (separate from Google login) through the IBM account portal, then use those direct credentials in the desktop app
  2. Clear your system's credential cache/keychain, as sometimes old tokens block new authentication attempts
  3. Check if your institutional license admin can manually provision access with standard credentials

The missing password reset emails suggest a deeper account sync problem between your Google auth and IBM's system. You might need to contact IBM support directly to unlink the Google authentication and establish a standard password.

If you're setting up business operations that require reliable software licensing and access management, proper credential structures matter from day one. We handle similar authentication and compliance coordination for companies establishing UAE operations: https://www.launchcompany.ae/

Hope you get this resolved quickly. Authentication issues are never fun when you need to work.
