Hi All. We're installing a local SC 5.4.13 to manage/monitor a FlashSystem-7X00. We're following the 'Ports Used by IBM Spectrum Control', but the pdf doesn't seem to clearly indicate 'origin' 'destination' and ports, so that we can ask FW team to open those ports (bi-directional or uni-directional). For instance, it says Port X 'Data Server'.  Port Y 'Device Server', Port Z 'Alert Server', Port M 'Web Server'/'Export Server, Port N 'Storage Resource Agent'.  So, what these specific servers are.  Is it referring to Spectrum Control Server.

Then it mentions 'Resources that run Storage Virtualize'. Does this mean the web GUI Controller IP, as we access Spectrum Virtualize GUI via an IP on FS7300. (IBM Spectrum Virtualize & IBM Storage Virtualize are same thing. Thinking Then at one page it mentions 'IBM Spectrum Control Device Server'. Is this server same as our soon to be installed Spectrum Control Server. Although it does says there login to SC and stop the device server, so it is that one only, it seems.

Please advise.  Basically, we need source/destination/ports list. Thanks.

Hello,

looking at the link that Nezih shared:

Table 1. IBM Spectrum Control ports used by TCP/IP for incoming communication

Table 2. List of IP ports that are used by IBM Spectrum Control

  • it depends on the devices you want to connect, and the protocols the devices use
  • the texts includes "listen" and "from" to indicate the direction of the communication

Note: since we are not only talking about Spectrum Control, it's hard to give information, what originating port a storage system may use in some cases, but typically the devices don't initiate a communication.

I hope this helps

Hi Nezih.  Thanks.  Yes, this is the same link which we are following. But it is not that clear on the source/destination parts. Lots of terms being used which we're not aware of, if they refer to SC Server or some part of it.  Thanks.

Hello Nezih,

I'm very sorry for the misspelling of you name. I had not intention to insult you, and corrected my mistake in the post right away. I answer here publicly in the hope you accept my apologies.

Again, I'm sorry

Markus

Hi Markus.  Thanks for the details. That makes it a bit more clearer.  So, to start with we'll request them to open ports as per the list in the link Nezih shared and will use IPs of Spectrum Control and FlashSystem Controllers to start with (and ask for bi-directional access, to rule out anything else).  And, then we see how it goes. Only thing to me is that the install doc says, you can't do this or that change of ports after the install of DB2 etc, and may need to re-install (which we can do anyway as fresh install).  So, lets see how it goes.  Thanks.
