 SMS Tablespaces

Hi

we have a customer still running v11.1 on AIX. We're encouraging them to upgrade to v12.1 but one sticking point is that a lot of their tablespaces have not been updated to even reflect v11.1. They still have a body of tablespaces that are showing as SMS. Clearly the best bet is to reconfigure all of their tablespaces to use Automatic Storage etc, but what would happen if that conversion was not done before the upgrade? Is this s showstopper?

This is not a show-stopper; SMS tablespaces are still supported, even though they have been deprecated for many many many years.

They very much should make it a priority to undertake the conversion to automatic storage.  Not only will they benefit from simplified storage management, the under-the-covers conversion from SMS to DMS tablespace types will provide operational and performance improvements.

Thanks Matthew. Yes, believe me, front and centre in our recommendations is to get all the tablespaces upgraded; for performance reasons and also to get the ability to claw back large volumes of unused storage. Plus a host of other considerations.
