 Showing Variance between Cost Source and Business Unit Allocation

Hi - I'm hoping one of you clever people out there can tell me how to do this.

I'm trying to either in a table or using KPIs show the following

Cost Source - $100

Business Unit Allocation - $90

Variance $10 

Any ideas :-)

Not sure if this will work, but took a few existing calculated metrics and re-saved as something different to get this:


There was a metric in there called 'BU Total Spend' and I did a 'Save As' and called it 'Business Unit Spend'.


OpEx is already in there and I did a 'Save As' and called it 'Cost Source Spend'...

Then created a new calculated metric called 'Variance' where I subtracted the two...


Unsure about the 'BU Total Spend' one - even if OOTB, seems like it's just looking at Cost.  Will dig into it some more tomorrow and get back to you. 😊

So on the Variance KPI how did you get anything to return on that even though I'm getting something for Cost Source and BU Cost in a KPI the variance is returning $0 as this has to be configured to one object 


am I being dim ? :-)

Hey @Claire Finch!  I knew something was fishy about that 'BU Total Spend'.  Change the Value Calculation for the 'Business Unit Spend' metric to this instead: =LookupObjectTotalValue(Business Unit Allocation).  That should do it! ​

The latest suggestion from @Jenny Franklin makes total sense. I would have tried using a LookupObjectUnitValue() call myself. πŸ±β€πŸ‘€πŸ±β€πŸ‘€πŸ±β€πŸ‘€β€‹
