 Question about Projects in TBM Studio

Is the "Projects" replicable?

・Question.2
Is it possible to delete a "Projects"?

・Question.3
If you want to see the accounting data of multiple years in "Cost Transparency", do you make a project for each year? Or do you want to capture accounting data for multiple years within one project? What are your best practices?

I didn't have enough words for my question, so I'll add it. (2022/4/8)

Common to all three questions, the meaning of Projects is not objects or components, but Projects like attached images.
Based on that, we would appreciate it if you could answer again.

Question 1 - The support team can copy a project to a new project. Do you have a need to create an entire copy of your project? Or are you looking to share data with a new project?

Question 2 - You can delete a project with a support ticket - but it is permanent and will not be able to undo. 

Question 3 - For seeing time across years I would use the time setting to open up the amount of time you need, you will open/close each fiscal year depending on needs. You can also use different reporting functions for time to bring in multiple years. As far as loading data you will open the time and load data in the time/month it needs to be added.

Hello Ryo - 

Question 1 - Yes, technically you can re-create the projects object and master data sets as custom objects. Otherwise you would use the Project component.

Question 2 - Is this Projects component/OOTB? Would you ever want to use it again? Can you simply take the projects object out of use?

Question 3 - Can you define accounting data? Like a system of record? We do have reporting options to look back in years. Apptio is based in time so you should be able to open/close time as needed for review. I would need more information to provide best practices.

1) Yes. You can create new objects related to existing ones. We have done it for Applications, with now 4 levels.


2) Sure, you can delete any object in the model, as long as you don't break the allocation logic. @Renee Daignault's answer says it well.​


3) We typically keep online 2 years.  We found that closing periods is not very useful, as it only prevents us from loading new data to the closed periods.

  • In the Time Settings we move forward the project start date (currently DEC2020):
     

    Before I push the date forward, I extract key data based on a report, so that we keep past history.


  • In the Calculation Settings, we limit the pre-calculated months:

Sorry, @Ryo Yamagami, I read it the wrong way.
I cannot answer that question. I suspect those are Apptio-created projects and thus, we cannot change them. Maybe @Renee Daignault​​ can shed more light.
We can get Support to create further Cost Transparency projects, and maybe they can delete them too.

I'm sorry that there is only Apptio-created projects in the attached image, but I would appreciate it if you could answer three questions about the Projects that we manually created.
