 performance issue with system calls through sudo

hello
we've changed the calls to some commands like "recreatevg, chlv, chfs". Initially we did use root user for those calls. Now we use a standard user which has to use "sudo -i -u root <cmd>". With this new method, we increased the duration of those calls.

For instance, recreatevg:
- did last around 30 s with calls from root directly
- now lasts around 30 minutes with calls from a lambda user with sudo -i -u root

The version of sudo is: Sudo version 1.9.16p2

Any idea?

That’s quite a big jump from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. I’d first check whether the delay is specifically coming from sudo -i.

It might be worth comparing:

sudo -u root <cmd>

vs.

sudo -i -u root <cmd>

Since -i starts a root login environment, it could be triggering PAM or profile-related processing on AIX. If the command is fast without -i, I’d look at the sudo-i PAM configuration and root login scripts next.

On the same version of sudo and not seeing this 

This is our recreatevg

 sudo /usr/sbin/recreatevg -f -O -y ${FS}vg -Y ${FS} ${DISK}
