 On-site Renewable Generation

Hi everyone,

I would appreciate some guidance from the community regarding the best approach for managing on-site renewable energy generation in Envizi.

Consider a scenario where a company generates its own renewable electricity through on-site solar installations and would like to:

  • Track and report its renewable energy production.
  • Monitor the proportion of renewable energy consumed on-site versus electricity imported from the grid.
  • Manage and report all of this within Envizi.

In this case, which Account Style would be the most appropriate?

Option 1
Universal - Energy Produced - Solar Generated - kWh

  • Linked to the Energy Produced scope.
  • Available in the Energy Production dashboard.

Option 2
Universal - On-site Renewable Generation and Consumption - kWh

  • Linked to Scope 2.
  • Included in the Power Report (Market-Based).

My main question is about Option 2. I do not fully understand why this account style is associated with Scope 2, since the renewable electricity is generated and consumed on-site rather than being purchased from the grid.

Could anyone explain the rationale behind this classification and share best practices for configuring this scenario in Envizi?

Hi Thias,

I had a similar situation where we had onsite renewable thermal power plant .. for calculating Onsite consumption i have used the following account style:

Small-scale on-site renewable generation and consumption - kWh - Scope 1; Since logically its direct generation and consumption. This account is also visible in market based emission.

Even though solar is generated on-site, it displaces grid electricity, so it directly impacts Scope 2 emissions.

Scope 2 is about how the electricity consumption is sourced or attributed, not whether it came through the grid meter.

The usual best practice is:

  • Track solar generation separately if you want a clean production view — for example with an energy-produced style such as Universal - Energy Produced - Solar Generated - kWh
    • Capture on-site self-consumption in the on-site renewables electricity category so it rolls into electricity reporting and the market-based Scope 2 view.
      • Capture grid electricity imports separately with your normal electricity account style, so you can compare on-site renewable use versus grid use.
        • Use the PowerReport and the Electricity inventory page to review the split between on-site renewables and grid electricity.

        Hello!,

        In continuation to the discussion, How do you suggest tracking total renewable in case of onsite system generated emissions (for example, burning  biomass for electricity production)? Is there an account style similar to  Universal - Energy Produced - Solar Generated - kWh  for renewable thermal?
