Hi all,

Hope someone can help me here. We are having issues setting up a concurrent SPSS license. We bought a license through an official third party, generated a code with spss.flexnetoperations. When inputting the code into the server, we get the following error:

java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String Index out of range: -1

Authorization failed

Authorization Error

Note that we use a server that runs on Linux, and we also use the sentinel license manager.

Note that I tried multiple times to make cases through IBMid but it didn't show any active cases after inputting all this information, so I hope someone can help us here.

Maybe there is a step we are skipping? We are also using Sentinel 9.6 not sure that might be the cause? We previously used this same setup., but maybe we have to download / install everything from scratch?

Dear @Paul van den Heuvel

To start with, can you please let us know the exact version of Sentinel License Manager SLM?

Also, the exact version of SPSS?

Also, server does have connection to Internet?

Please, do not attach here any authorization code as this is a public website and everybody will see the code.

If you just recently bought the license most probably you will run the latest version of SPSS. Latest version of SPSS requires to have latest version of SLM. (SLM 9.10)

If you are not running at latest version of SLM, I would recommend to uninstall old version and then download and install new version of SLM.

Here are the steps how to uninstall old version of SLM:

1 - Create a backup of the following files from the WinNT folder lservrc
2 - Stop the 'Sentinel RMS License Manager' Windows Service.
3 - Locate the following file in the License Manager installation directory: loadls.exe
4 - Right-click file 'loadls.exe'
5 - Select the 'Run as administrator' option. If prompted, provide Administrator credentials.
6 - Select the 'Remove' button.
7 - A window indicating 'The Sentinel RMS License Manager Service has been removed' will display.
8 - Select the 'OK' button.
9 - Uninstall the current version of the License Manager AND tools from Control Panel 'Programs and Features' (or 'Add/Remove Programs'). Reboot server if required.
Delete any old or new install path(s) if still present after the uninstall. For 8.6 the install directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT.
Then verify the registry keys below are gone.
Windows x64: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Rainbow Technologies
Windows x32: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Rainbow Technologies
10 - Install one more time Sentinel from IBM box.
11 - Drop the saved lservrc file back into the WinNT folder
12 - When the License Manager installation is complete (including any restart of the host if required), locate the 'Sentinel RMS License Manager' Windows Service.
13 - Stop the 'Sentinel RMS License Manager' Windows Service.
"Impossible to perform"
"The Sentinel RMS License Manager was unable to open the specified log file."
"The Sentinel RMS License Manager service on host app01 has been stopped."
14 - Start the 'Sentinel RMS License Manager' Windows Service

How to download and install new verion of SLM:

1. install the Sentinel License Manager (latest version is 9.10) on the new machine (tools and manager, first install Manager and then Tools ¨As Administrator¨)

Direct download link: https://ibm.ent.box.com/s/pt7f9pqthn6p30q5g2wse0iom6dtxgz4

2. add your license to the Sentinel license manager by using the licenseactivator:

a) Open a command prompt as Administrator (Start->Run and type "cmd").

b) Change the directory to the Sentinel License Manager directory:
cd "\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT"

c) Once in the installation directory, run the licenseactivator command line with your authorization code. For example:
licenseactivator abcdefghij1234567890

d) Open the WlmAdmin tool to see the newly added license
note: Restart the Sentinel RMS License Manager service in case you don't see the license active in WlmAdmin

Best regards.

Hi @Paul van den Heuvel
@Jorge Araujo Criollo is correct.  This has to do with your version of the IBM Concurrent License Manager and Tools and specficially the 'licenseactivator' executable shipped with that version.  The resolution lies in upgrading to the most recent release of the IBM SPSS Concurrent License Manager and Tool (9.10 -- not to be confused with version 9.1).  This issue was described in Known Issue DT449052
