 Mainframe cost allocation

Does anybody use any special allocations for mainframe dependent on whether it is a z/os or VSE operating system? We were thinking of creating two new sub-towers. We do not have usage data to allocate off of, but we can tell the operating system based on the LPARs. Thanks in advance.

@Jason Tucker - Hey there!  At one of my old gigs we would allocate based on zSeries vs iSeries, apply different overall weightings for different operating companies based on their annual spend, and also have allocations for app matches and non-match, but nothing specifically on OS.  I do remember having to filter mainframe out of our CMDB data (to separate servers from mainframe) and would use OS to help with that, though.  Hoping someone has done what you're asking and can hop on and give their feedback - looking forward to responses!  Hope you're doing well! πŸ˜ŽπŸ±β€πŸ‘€

I'm always reluctant to add sub-towers to the TBM Taxonomy, since that moves you away from the standards which make Apptio so useful. Depending on your ultimate aim, could you use ITRT_LPARS Key, Application ID, or Service ID as a distinguishing field?  You could then incorporate that additional level of reporting into your custom reporting.

We decommissioned our mainframes some years ago, so we no longer have them in the model. That was before our migration to R12, so I cannot help, @Jason Tucker.​
