 Integrating external TTS/STT APIs with watsonx Orchestrate without ADK

Hi IBM Community,

I'm working with watsonx Orchestrate and I have access to third-party Text-to-Speech (TTS) and Speech-to-Text (STT) APIs from external partners. I’ve seen that the voice configuration documentation focuses on Watson TTS/STT and requires the Agent Development Kit (ADK) or Developer Edition for custom voice settings.

My question is: Is there a supported way to integrate external TTS/STT services directly into the standard watsonx Orchestrate platform (not using ADK or Developer Edition)? If not, is there a roadmap or workaround for enabling voice input/output using external providers within the standard Orchestrate environment?

Watson TTS/STT is tightly integrated with the platform, and the use of ADK or Developer Edition is generally required for custom voice settings. Direct integration of third-party TTS/STT services into the standard watsonx Orchestrate environment isn’t fully supported yet. However, it’s always worth checking with IBM's latest updates or their support team for any workarounds or updates to the roadmap. Integrating external TTS/STT could certainly enhance the flexibility, so I’d recommend keeping an eye on future platform enhancements from here.
