Hello,

With the offering of DS8A10 for a customer who is encrypt his data using IBM z CPACFת

We need to estimate the compression ratio the new storage will provide.

The customer environment is z/VM 7.3 with z/VSE.

Are there any tools which can help us achieving this goal?

Thank you,

There is no compression estimation tool for z/VM or VSE. If you expect that the data is encrypted then you should probably be considering that there will not be any significant compression.

If the client is using any other compression mechanisms for backup then you could look at how this behaves to see if there might be some potential.

You might want to raise an IDEA for z/VM to see if they might consider some tooling or talk to 21st Century about VSE.

Thank you, Nick,

I suspected that this is the situation but needed confirmation.

We do not have many z/VM z/VSE customers, and I am afraid we have difficulties justifying the effort.

Anyway, I am going to try.

Thanks again,

Arye
