QuickBooks Error H202 prevents users from opening the company file in multi‑user mode. Company file on server; other users see H202. I checked hosting, restarted services, and verified firewall rules, but issue persists. Need step‑by‑step help to restore multi‑user access. Any quick fixes, ports, or DNS tips appreciated.

hi @Martin Jain

QuickBooks Error H202 occurs when the multi-user mode cannot connect to the company file hosted on the server. This issue usually happens due to blocked ports, incorrect hosting setup, or DNS conflicts. To fix it, open QuickBooks Database Server Manager and rescan your company file folder. Ensure Hosting is enabled only on the server computer and that the services QBCFMonitorService and QuickBooksDBXX are running. Add QuickBooks ports (8019, 56728, 55378–55382) to your firewall exceptions. You can also try pinging the server name from workstations to verify network connectivity. If the problem continues, run the QuickBooks Tool Hub (Network Issues tab) to automatically repair H202 errors.

Workstation can’t connect to the company file on the server in multi-user mode.

Quick Steps to Fix:

  1. Check Hosting:

    • Only the server should host multi-user mode.

    • Go to File > Utilities → Make sure only the server shows "Stop Hosting Multi-User Access".

  2. Run QuickBooks Database Server Manager (on server):

    • Scan the folder with your company file to auto-fix network/firewall issues.

  3. Open Firewall Ports (Inbound/Outbound):

    • Add ports: 8019, 56728, 55378–55382 (for 2022 version).

  4. Ping Server:

    • From workstations, open Command Prompt:

      ping [ServerName]

If it fails, use the server IP or update the hosts file.

  5. Edit Hosts File (on workstations):

    • Add:

      192.168.1.100 QBServer

(Replace with your server's IP and name.)

  6. Restart Services (on server):

    • QuickBooksDBXX and QBCFMonitorService

  7. Run QuickBooks File Doctor (via Tool Hub) for auto-repair
