Hello

Can the FS7600 be virtualized by a San Volume Controller?

If so, what San Volume Controller model and what minimum code version is required for the SVC?

Is there a compatibility matrix to see which storage systems can be virtualized by other storage systems and the minimum required code versions?

Is it possible to have half of the storage on an FS7600 virtualized by the SVC and the other half for servers?

Hello Jorge,

Yes, the Flashsystem can be virtualized by a SVC.

If you dont have a SVC yet, start with SV3 with minimum code level:8.5.0

There is no matrix for all the storage systems which can be virtualized (>500 systems). Go to: https://www.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/ssic/interoperability.wss and start from there.

And Yes the Flashsystem can provide storage to SVC and other hosts at the same time.

Hi Johan

Thanks for the information. I have an additional question: If I have the SVC model SV1 and conversion 8.2.1.5, would it be possible to virtualize the FS7600?

Additionally, after entering the SSIC data, I only found what's shown in the attached image. This leads me to believe that (Spectrum Virtualize (Controllers) 8.5.x) would be any storage device with that version, including the SVC. Is that correct?

So when you upgrade the SV1 Cluster to 8.4.x or 8.5.0.x you will be fine.

Putting FS7600 behind SV1 seems very strange - SV1 is very old and will transition to end of support at the end of this year.

Also you cannot benefit from features like volumegroup snapshots etc.

Hello Jorge,

from a technical perspective it is possible to virtualize a FS7600 using SVC and attach other hosts in parallel to the FS7600.

But this is not recommended as it may can cause side-effects vice versa.

As SV1 nodes will go End of Support by IBM at the end of 2026. From that perspective, you may should think about using more current SVC hardware (SA2 or SV3).

In addition, the Storage Virtualize code version 8.5 is the terminal release for SV1 nodes. It is not possible to install a newer code version which provide with new functionalitäy.
