In Redbook Intelligent Storage Management with AIOps by using IBM Storage Insights there is a table with Support conditions concerning Storage Virtualize versions and FCM4.

Storage Insights has also a table: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/storage-insights?topic=started-data-collector-vs-call-home-cloud-services

If I have a FS7300 or FS5300 > 8.7.0 with FCM4 connected to SI Pro with a Data collector (and no CH with cloud services), I don’t get WAD or RTD?

This because

  • we have FCM4 so only RTD is supported
  • and no Call Home with cloud services, so no RTD

or am I missing something?

Thanks

Hi,

yes, FCM4 does "only" support Ransomware Thread Detection (RTD). Whereby RTD builds on Workload Anomaly Detection (WAD).

Yes using Cloud Call Home (CCH) is mandetory for RTD.

In addition each node must have a minimum of 128GB of memory.

Hi,

as Uwe already mentioned, you won't get RTD without CCH, as the feedback via CCH is essential for training the model.

But in regard to WAD I am currently a bit confused about the redbook's statement you posted.
Codeversion 8.6.0 has introduced additional entropy performance stats on a per volume basis (and hence independently from FCM4 Drives); Those statistics were already used in combination with compression stats to present appropriate warnings in SI - which as far as I remember, was initially referred as basic "Workload Anomaly Detection" before the advanced RTD with FCM4 has been introduced.

Since those entropy stats come along with the normal XML performance stats which are collected with the Data Collector, I would have expected that at least that level of information could be available in SI.

/edit: I just found some documentation that mentioned that with the introduction of FCM4 the whole WAD computation seems to be shifted to the FCM4 layer - so that's probably why the "classic" WAD on xml performance stats basis will not longer come into play. So my above statement may not apply in that case.

So... I do have a FS7300 (8.7.0.x) with FCM4 connected to SI Pro with a Data collector.. meaning no WAD (because of FCM4) and no RTD (because of Data collector) ..

What is the context of RTD active here?
