Hi All.  We want to have detailed metrics and performance analysis for a Specific Host (Group) with hundreds of volumes in our Flash System FS7X00. Currently we have web-based GUI access to Spectrum.  How can we do that. We want do a detailed analysis (and possibly want to find the root cause of the issue as well). Is there any specific procedure on this part.  Please advise.  (We don't have Spectrum Control yet. Soon going to install it).   Thanks.

Hello Bacil123

Without a proper tool it will not be so easy. I advise to get IBM Storage Insights up and running (you get SI pro for 30 days).

How to start with Storage Insights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DFw6dJKlig

Other tools: Stor2rrd or Qperf

Otherwise you can also download and analyze the performance data yourself. For more information: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/flashsystem-7x00/8.7.0?topic=monitoring-statistics-collection

Even more information on chapter 6 in https://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg248585.html

Hi T.  We do have Storage Insights which is supposed to reach from the GUI, but it never opens ever since the installation of the box. So we have kind of given up on SI. Previous Collector based SI used to work. With new gone downhill.  We do also have Spectrum Control Special Edition, that is not getting installed in our Linux host, and even Support is struggling with answers for now one month. Earlier DB2 install was a challenge but support somehow helped in it that also with multiple tries. For SC install, they advised to first have X11 windows for GUI install, which we did but still it is not getting installed and says install mode is not supported. They have made everything very complex and most of time these didn't work. Moreover, documentation clarity on the firewall ports to be opened for Spectrum Control is not there, in the sense that it doesn't specify source/destination ports which need to be opened in FW (like other vendors do).Just mentions the Port#.Even after selecting both the options -i Console and -i GUI, it complains that installer can't run in this UI mode. Also, in the name of Expert Care Premium Support etc, they've now added another channel(delay line) in between where TAM communicates first, and shares what he hears from the real backend engineers, so un-necessary lost in translations at time. Back in the days Tech support was directly responding and talking. Things going downhill faster than we had thought.....

Also, we do have STOR2RRD, working fine up and running. Any procedure you have handy to use it for analysis, as we mostly see the graphs all over.

Thanks.

Just checking, did you follow the configuration procedure of Storage Insight as shown in the video? Maybe you can check: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/storage-insights?topic=started-before-you-begin-checklist
